For the love of creativity
Rooted Creativity grew from both my work as an art therapist and registered psychotherapist, and a season of my own life that asked more of me than I knew how to give.
A few years ago, I lived through a period of burnout and caregiving that deeply depleted me. I was doing what so many of us do: holding it together, showing up for others, and losing the thread back to myself. I turned to art simply because I needed somewhere to put what I was carrying.
For me, that somewhere was the act of making itself. Whether my hands were in clay at the pottery wheel or moving a paintbrush across the page, creativity offered what words and thinking could not. Something softened in the process. Not because the hard things disappeared, but because art gave me a way to be present with them without being overwhelmed. It offered a spaciousness I hadn't been able to find anywhere else.
This is what I’ve also been witnessing in my therapy room.
Over the past several years of working in private practice with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and struggles with self-worth, I have seen the same gentle transformation unfold again and again. When people are invited to create without judgment or pressure, something in them opens. The nervous system begins to settle. There is more room to breathe, to notice what’s happening in their hearts and minds. To reconnect with themselves. When we make art as a way of listening inward, insights and deeper self-understanding can emerge.
I created the Rooted Creativity: Art & Reflection Deck in hopes of making that experience available beyond the therapy room. These fifty prompts are rooted in the belief that everyone is innately creative, and when approached with care, it can be a pathway back to ourselves.
This deck is an invitation to slow down, listen inward, and meet yourself with the same care you so readily offer others.
